The Midland Bedlington Terrier Club was formed in 1964 by Bedlington Terrier enthusiasts in the Midland Area, to serve owners, breeders and exhibitors by Stan and Olive Stones (Stanolly) Secretaries, Fred Cross and Mary Taunt, President and Chairman respectively.

In the early days shows were held in conjunction with other breed club shows at Birmingham and Bath.  Shows were then held at Cheadle in Staffordshire, Doveridge and Uttoxeter, before finally settling at Freehay Village Hall, where, we still hold our two open shows.  A Foot and Mouth outbreak in the year 2000 forced the move away from Freehay, finding a new venue at The Canine Academy at Tollerton, which proved a huge success with exhibitors and spectators. Following suggestions from our Membership and lack of space at Freehay, (although we are still numerically the smallest of the three breed clubs, our entries have significantly increased over the years) this has remained our home for the Championship shows.

The Midland Bedlington Club has always prided itself on welcoming pet owners, new exhibitors and spectators alike, who have found the atmosphere to be both relaxed and friendly.  In addition, being the only one of the three breed clubs to hold two open shows a year, it has been possible to give both breed and non breed specialists with a genuine interest in the Bedlington Terrier a chance to gain experience in judging the breed.  (Judges are the choice of the membership at the Annual General Meeting of the Club, held in February each year following the Open Show) 

Over the past few years, Seminars have been held i.e The Bedlington Terrier, Grooming and Trimming the Bedlington Terrier, Stewarding, Judging Procedures and Assessments, Conformation & Movement, Rules & Regulations, and the last one brought in by the Kennel Club ‘Hands On’ Conformation & Movement.
